Tell us about your family:

I belong to a Punjabi family in Delhi. My Parents and younger sister stay in Delhi.

I am now rooted in Mumbai, married in a Gujarati family, staying with my Husband Dr Pritesh Naik who is a laparoscopic endoscopy surgeon. My 11 years old son is the charm of our life. My 84-year-old mother-in-law stays with us. Ours is a simple family blended in colours if two different but vibrant cultures. I am glad that my son can experience two cultures under the same roof.

Quotes that keep you going, motivate you:

  1. I didn’t get what I asked for, but I got what I truly needed.
  2. You never know in what form you might encounter the Divine (Narayan).
  3. Nothing lasts Forever ( अनिश्चय है ).
  4. The loss is always less.

Achievements/ Anything you are proud of yourself:

I am proud of attaining the highest degree of my profession (Royal college Membership UK) from best institute in the world. To me it’s not just a degree, it’s a pedestal and acknowledgment of the process which took me there. The phase of life when I cleared this step was too tough and testing me from all sides. I have always rated my MRCOG degree as my biggest achievement. But now I can say that parenting my 11 years old boy and grooming him to be a kind empathetic human being who is sensitised towards human suffering and emotions and treats a woman also equal. Nothing matches the sense of achievement and pride when my little boy through his tiny gestures convey love, compassion, care to people around him and I feel out of the world that I am doing my parent job mindfully and sensibly.

What is Women Empowerment according to you?

Awareness of who you truly are, what are you doing, what is your real goal and purpose of life is true Empowerment to me. Not only for women but for any human being irrespective of gender bias.

For a woman specifically – true empowerment is identification of your inner true ‘self’ and the hidden strength inside yourself. Rather than asking for validation from outside world and rating your own self on someone’s criteria of being good. An awareness that I am complete the way I am and no one can rate my worth based on just the size and shape of chapatis I roll in kitchen. Having a true faith and trust in yourself, self-validation, self-confidence and having peace within your femininity is True empowerment.

Message for the society:

Sexual Health for women.

I think it’s high time that we normalise Female sexual desires, sexual well-being and sexual preferences for women’s. A woman speaking about her sexual needs in clinics is still considered taboo and is looked down upon. While for decades Manhood has been connected with a Man’s sexual performance and the number of sexual partners he can have without any guilt, The women have always been shut up and shunned away and labelled as low character if they talk about sexual intimacy. We need to have a safe space where a woman can speak up and express her interests and preferences in this zone freely and that’s where I feel I would like to create social and medical awareness.

How will you give back to society after becoming a Queen?

This title has a great empowerment value in many ways:

1) The title ‘Mrs India International Queen’ breaks all the barriers of size, shape, colour, body weight, stretch marks, career breaks, etc – winning this title sets an example and role model for all those women who feel that getting married is the end of their career, their personal lives and their own aspirations. Setting an example that if I can do it, you can do it too, which can motivate so many more to pursue their dreams

2) This platform has a huge potential to reach out to million of women. I would surely like to spread the word about awareness towards women’s sexual health including cervical cancer HPV vaccine which is a must for new generation. Sexuality education for parents, teachers, teenagers, school workshops are on my cards always parallel to my surgical work. And this platform magnifies the volume of this message multifold and can help the message reach to women who need it most.

Why have you participated in Mrs India International Queen?

I have been blessed to receive so much from Universe – good education, good appearance, good grooming, a great work atmosphere, and a supportive family, friends and wonderful mentors and teachers, above all I feel that I am gifted with the awareness to balance it all.

At this point in my life I feel I need to give back to women’s community in my best capacity.

A woman’s life is much more worthy of just being stuck in daily chores and not only me every single woman around has great potential hidden within themselves. I have participated in Mrs India International Queen to say it loud to every single lady around, “आदि शक्ति हो तुम, जो सोच लो एक बार तो क्या नहीं कर सकती”

You just need to tap into your inner source of power, and you’ll no longer seek validation from the outside world.
